eMetrics at Stockholm

I enjoyed it and can’t speak highly enough of the quality of the sessions at the summit. This year Jim Sterne asked us to list three outcomes that we wanted to take away from the eMetrics as well as list how we would measure it. Jim asked;

What do you want? When, with whom, what will happen when you get it? Also it was stressed that this should be measurable, which kind of fits with the point of the eMetrics. ;)

Outcome 1) What do you want? When, with whom, what will happen when you get it?

Firstly, it’s nice to be asked. Thanks. To the point though I wanted to meet the people I hadn’t met in person but blogged, worked with, done podcasts with, heard of but never met in person as well as all the folk I already knew quite well from the industry. When? At the event. Whom? Aurelie and Rene, Marc, Gus, the new people working for the vendors, the WAA people, catching up with Lars again and most importantly potential customers. I also wanted to see who in the region are our competition and check out how good they were. The signs are good, we have some good competition who are thinking about the right things which means we have to push the boat out further and service our clients better than they do. What happened when I got it? I learned from a lot of smart people a great many things, I got a couple of decent leads, and a few new ideas. How would I measure this? Well it’s happened already, basically what I’m talking about is the networking and the networking at eMetrics is always a resounding success.

Outcome 2) What do you want? When, with whom, what will happen when you get it?

Learnings and idea validation. When? At the summit. With whom? Peers, Practioners and competitors. What will happen when you get it? I can continue to apply it with clients. One concrete example of this is a discussion I had with an existing client about a new kind of service/system we could develop for them based on something discussed by HP and also something we’ve already been thinking about. So in effect were now thinking about automating what might be an expensive consulting engagement into something much much more cost effective. Measurement? Done already and discussions are ongoing.

Outcome 3) What do you want? When, with whom, what will happen when you get it?

New business for SATAMA. In six months, with a company we can help with whom we can build a good long term engagement with. I have a couple of leads. I’ll let you know if it works out.

So there you have it. 2/3 of my objectives already achieved at the Summit itself and a roadmap to discussions with leads we have generated as a direct result of going to Stockholm. Thanks Jim. Great event.

It was great to see you again. We’ll talk web analytics at IMC in Stockholm at the end of November, but I’m sure we’ll catch up before then.

Thanks for being part of the reason the event was successful Steve. your presentation with Simon Green from KONE was a great balance of theory and practice. I was delighted by how advanced companies are in Scandinavia. I have a feeling that’s because of the hard work done by people like you who are so willing to teach others. Thank you.

Thanks Lars and Thanks Jim. Always good to hear the work has value.
